The Cleveland Cavaliers, with a record of 55-10, will bring their impressive 15-game win streak on the road as they face off against the Memphis Grizzlies, who currently hold a record of 42-24, on Friday night at 8 ET on League Pass. Memphis is on a hot streak themselves, winning four straight games after a rough stretch of five losses in six games. Their recent success has propelled them back to the No. 2 seed in the Western Conference.
Here are five things to know ahead of game action:
Darius Garland in the clutch:The Cavs earned their second 15-game win streak of the season thanks in large part to Garland’s brilliance on Tuesday. In a comeback victory over Brooklyn, Cleveland erased an 18-point deficit in the second half, with Garland dropping 18 of his 30 points in the fourth quarter. The win clinched the Central Division title for the Cavaliers, who became just the sixth team in NBA history to record two win streaks of 15 games in a season.
Jarrett Allen holding down the paint:Allen has been tremendous for Cleveland in 2024-25, playing in all 65 games this year after missing only five regular season games in 2023-24. He leads the league in true shooting percentage (
72.4
) and is second in field goal percentage (
70.0
) while doing the dirty work on the interior. Over his last five outings, the eighth-year center out of Texas is averaging 15.4 points, 11.0 rebounds, 2.0 steals and 1.4 blocks in a little over 30 minutes a night. ‘The Fro’ could be busy with Jaren Jackson, Jr. expected out with an ankle injury on Friday.
De’Andre Hunter’s seamless fit:Cleveland hasn’t lost a game since Feb. 4, just a few days before acquiring Hunter from Atlanta at the deadline. The NBA-best Cavs have been even better with an upgraded wing rotation, with the former Hawk making a positive impact whether he’s starting or coming off the bench. In 12 games with his new club, Hunter has put up 14.3 points and 4.3 rebounds while posting shooting splits of 50.0% FG/50.0% 3PT/84.1% FT in 25.0 minutes. His plus-9.6 plus-minus rating ranks tenth during that stretch.
High-powered offenses collide:The two best offenses in terms of points scored will be on display in this cross-conference matchup. Cleveland holds the top spot at 122.7 points per game, with Memphis just behind them at 122.6 ppg. If the first matchup between No. 1 in the East and No. 2 in the West was any indication, a 129-123 victory for the Cavs on Feb. 23, you won’t want to miss the rematch in Memphis.
Ja Morant heating up:Morant has started to find his groove as we approach the home stretch of the NBA regular season. During the Grizzlies’ four-game streak, the high-flyer has averaged 30.0 points, 3.3 rebounds, 8.3 assists and 1.5 steals in 34.3 minutes while knocking down 50.0% of his 20.5 field goal attempts a night. Memphis will need him to keep being aggressive as they try to keep pace with the Nuggets, Lakers and Rockets, who are all within a game of each other in the crowded standings.
