New Delhi: Indian cricket sensation Shubman Gill rang in his 25th birthday with a bang in Bengaluru on Sunday, September 8. The talented batsman, who made his international debut in 2019, is currently showcasing his skills for India A in the Duleep Trophy 2024 at the iconic M. Chinnaswamy Stadium. Despite facing a tough loss in the match, Gill made sure to carve out some time for a special celebration with his Indian teammates and friends post-game.
Videos of Gill celebrating and cutting cake are now going viral on the internet.

Shubman Gill, who was named captain of India for the first time for the five-match T20I series against Zimbabwe in July 2024, has now been given the leadership mantle of the India A team to take on India B in their first-round match of the Duleep Trophy 2024 in Bengaluru. The talented right-handed batsman from Punjab got good starts in both innings but could not convert them into big ones. His captaincy role in the current competition marked another milestone in his gradually rising career.
The two-match Test series against Bangladesh will be his next commitment for India. Gill has found a place in the 16-member squad, captained by Rohit Sharma, for the opening match at MA Chidambaram Stadium in Chennai starting on 19 September. As such, this is an important series for Gill to hold onto his form and solidify his place in India’s Test setup.
The right-handed opening batsman had scored a century against England in his last Test appearance for India at the Himachal Pradesh Cricket Association Stadium in Dharamsala. As a result, Shubman Gill will come into the red-ball series against Bangladesh with a lot of expectation to repeat that form. Gill has turned out to be one of the most promising batsmen in the Indian lineup; his ability to deliver in key moments, and he would look to make a mark again during the Test series.
India cannot take Bangladesh lightly in the forthcoming series of Tests, since Najmul Hossain Shanto-led Bangladesh has pulled upsets in many series. During their Test series against Pakistan in August-September 2024, Bangladesh convincingly defeated the Shan Masood-led team in both matches at Rawalpindi Cricket Stadium. Their good show hints at the challenge they pose, and the best India can do to avoid any shock in this two-match series.
Star wicketkeeper-batter Rishabh Pant, who survived a life-threatening road accident on December 30, 2022, was picked in the Indian squad for the first Test against Bangladesh as he makes his return to the red-ball format. Pant last played a Test match for India on December 25, 2022, against Bangladesh in Mirpur, where he made 93 runs in the first innings, playing an incredible game. His return to the Test side will be highly awaited as he tries to get back into rhythm after quite a while out of international cricket.
Along with Rishabh Pant, RCB pacer Yash Dayal has received his first Test call-up for India. Left-arm pacer Dayal was in the news when he was hit for five continuous sixes by Rinku Singh in IPL last year but made strong comebacks into the 2024 IPL season. Dayal also shone bright with his recent display in the ongoing Duleep Trophy match for India B and caught the attention of selectors. His inclusion gives the squad of India much depth in terms of pace attack, for which he will look to make most of the opportunity.
