Matthew Wade Retires: Exploring New Endeavors after saying goodbye to the cricket field

New Delhi: Australian cricketer Matthew Wade has shocked fans by announcing his retirement from international cricket just before the Indian team's tour of Australia for the Border-Gavaskar Trophy. This marks Wade's second retirement in just eight months, as he had previously announced his retirement from first-class, red-ball cricket back in March after playing the Sheffield Shield final. Wade played his last international match for Australia in June this year, a T20 match against India. His sudden retirement comes as a surprise to many cricket enthusiasts, as he was seen as a vital part of the Australian team.

Matthew Wade’s International Career:

Matthew Wade’s international career started in October 2011 with a T20 match against South Africa. From then till June 2024, he played 92 T20 International matches, scoring 1202 runs. Apart from this, he also played 97 ODIs for Australia, scoring 1867 runs. Wade, who played his first ODI for Australia in February 2012, played his last ODI in July 2021.

His Test career started in April 2012 and he played his last Test against India in January 2021. The wicketkeeper-batsman, who played 36 Tests for Australia, retired from first-class cricket in March 2024. He played 225 matches in his 13-year international career.

Matthew Wade becomes coach of the Australian team:

Matthew Wade has also thought about what he will do after retiring from international cricket. He will join the coaching staff of the Australian team. In this role, the home ODI series against Pakistan starting on November 4 will be his first assignment. Matthew Wade will be the fielding and keeping coach of the Australian team in this series.

Wade will continue to play white-ball cricket both domestically and overseas, and is already moving into coaching.
