The Republic of Ireland failed to find the back of the net once again, as Greece emerged victorious with a 2-0 win in Dublin. This result dealt a further setback to Heimir Hallgrimsson's tenure as manager.
Ireland went into their sixth game of 2024 having failed to score in four out of the previous five - and thought they had the breakthrough when Chiedoze Ogbene found the net - but his effort was ruled out for offside.
Instead, Greece took control of the goalscoring matters in the second half. First, Fotis Ioannidis fired home five minutes after the break before Christos Tzolis sealed the points for the visitors late on.
It means Hallgrimsson - whose side managed just one shot on target against Greece - has begun his spell as Ireland coach with back-to-back 2-0 defeats.
